How does Softwashing work? 

Softwashing is a low-pressure cleaning method that effectively removes and prevents the regrowth of algae and other organic growth on exterior surfaces. Here's how it works:

1. Preparation:

 * The area to be cleaned is assessed to identify the type and extent of algae growth.

 * Any delicate plants or surrounding areas are protected from the cleaning solution.

2. Solution Application:

 * A specialized cleaning solution, typically a mixture of water, sodium hypochlorite (a type of bleach), and a surfactant (a soap-like substance), is prepared. The exact ratios depend on the surface being cleaned and the severity of the algae growth.

 * This solution is applied to the affected surface using a low-pressure sprayer. The low pressure ensures that delicate surfaces like roofs, render, and painted walls are not damaged.

 * The surfactant helps the solution to adhere to the surface and penetrate the algae and its root system more effectively.

3. Dwell Time:

 * The cleaning solution is left on the surface for a specific period, usually 10-15 minutes. This dwell time allows the sodium hypochlorite to kill the algae and other organic matter at their roots.

4. Rinsing (if necessary):

 * Depending on the surface and the chemicals used, a low-pressure rinse might be applied to remove any remaining solution and dead algae. Some biocides are designed to self-cleanse with natural weathering.

The Anti-Algae Action:

The key to softwashing's anti-algae effectiveness lies in the sodium hypochlorite. It acts as a powerful biocide, meaning it kills living organisms like algae, mould, mildew, and lichen.

Unlike pressure washing, which only blasts away the surface growth, softwashing with sodium hypochlorite:

 * Penetrates to the roots: It doesn't just remove the visible algae but also kills the spores and underlying growth, preventing rapid regrowth.

 * Sanitizes the surface: It disinfects the treated area, eliminating the conditions that allow algae to thrive.

 * Provides longer-lasting results: By killing the algae at its source, softwashing offers a much longer period before regrowth occurs compared to pressure washing alone.

In essence, anti-algae softwashing uses the power of chemistry applied gently to eradicate algae and inhibit its return, keeping your exterior surfaces clean and protected for longer.
